This project is part of a long-range plan and commitment to serve immediate and future needs of our customers and, as those before us; we remain proud and blessed for the opportunity. To those that follow us we pass on wisdom that can maximize per-acre production and minimize development costs. First and foremost we were able to take advantage of the property in its original form once we cleared it. From the onset, the property had in-place 3-phase electricity that was implemented into our development plan. Existing environmental programs permitted us to clean and improve the existing creek, our main water source. During the 2007 drought, the worst in 100 years, we had water surpluses, with this spring-fed creek.
The farm is well off "hurricane alley." The soil make-up is sandy loam soil with very little clay. The original meadows fell within the farm needs as to spacing and production. The well accommodated the needs of the farm's office and apartment, and serves as a backup water source system as it is integrated into the computer-based remote control system. Existing firebreaks provide easy property access and the established pines restrict the occasional and predictable winds. The most beneficial tools included aerial photographs and drafting of a site plan showing the location of agriculture pines, water sources, and other need-to-know facts. Throughout construction, the site plan has been amended for clarity of ongoing projects and long range planning.
The owners have taken the project up a notch by adding the closed circuit surveillance camera system (CCTV) that improves site security, allows farm oversight, and supports marketing efforts. In development we pooled years of security experience and implemented modern technology that is Internet-based and accessible with password controls. The CCTV system allows prospective buyers or customers to see the property and study inventory with real time access. We invite anyone with a genuine business interest to inquire about access. As a marketing tool, the CCTV system was well received in its planning stages by landscaping architects and other buyers, who saw it as an opportunity to show the farm and inventory to their customers and to make office based purchase decisions with our on site staff. These digital cameras have the ability to pan, tilt, and zoom in on each growing zone and recordings are digitized and accessible for review.
When it is all said and done, we feel the web-cam surveillance system, instills customer confidence by revealing the operation in an unguarded way. Additionally, it grants the owners a sense of security and an avenue to improve productivity, curtail injuries, and reduce insurance and labor costs. As a secondary benefit there is an interest by members of the academic and industrial communities for testing and study. This serves as Goodland Creek Trees' vehicle for better customer service while facilitating growth practices. As stated earlier, it is our intent to exceed the standards of growth and we have.
